100% Catholic - 0% Roman Catholic The OLD CATHOLIC CHURCH has been around for hundreds of years, but few people today know about it. Larger groups that use the word "Catholic" rarely like to admit its existence, but it does exist. It is completely Catholic, but without the pope, the Inquisition and all the guilt. Archbishop Wynn Wagner introduces you to the beliefs of this small group of Catholics with their modern philosophy that is wrapped inside a very traditional liturgy. Expect to be amazed at the spiritual tools that are available you today. When someone says you can't marry because you are gay, or that you can't be a Catholic priest because you are married or female read this book to find the answer Yes, you can.

I really enjoyed this book. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in better understanding the Old Catholic Church tradition. They call themselves Old Catholic because they hold to the original beliefs tracing back to the foundations of early Christianity, whereas the splinter group, the Roman Catholic Church, which of course became far more popular, modified these beliefs in several substantial ways. Over the course of the history of the Christian religion, Rome caused three major splits in the Christian tradition: around 1050 CE Rome split from the East, giving us the Roman Catholics and the Eastern Orthodox traditions; several hundred years later, Rome caused two other splits, from which the Old Catholics arose, and another split from which all Protestant traditions arose. This book doesn't discuss any of these splits in great detail, but instead (and properly, in my opinion) focuses upon the spiritual traditions of the Old Catholic Church. It is easy to read, informative, and uplifting.Product details

A Pilgrim Guide to the Old Catholic Church Archbishop Wynn Wagner 9781449992798 Books Reviews
Some books that introduce a religion are dry and boring. If that is what you want, don't look in these pages. Archbishop Wynn Wagner brings the Old Catholic Church to life. This is a "Pilgrim's Guide," and the archbishop is the first to let you know that he is just another pilgrim. When he doesn't know the answer, he tells you. He tells you in ways that may leave you chuckling. When he talks about the majesty of our Old Catholic Church, he speaks with the authority of someone who walks-the-walk. The "Pilgrim's Guide" is more than a simple introduction, it is a tour of what can be your spiritual life with a tour guide who lives the subject matter on a daily basis.
Abp. Michael V. Seneco, Presiding Bishop
North American Old Catholic Church
There is a real Old Catholic Church--but this isn't it...Old-Catholics are a group of national churches which are separated from Rome. This book, however, is a compilation of personal beliefs and brought to you by the author, of "Vamp Camp." The views expressed in this book are neither Roman Catholic nor Old Catholic. The author, formerly of the "Liberal Catholic Church," uses the outward forms of traditional Catholic worship, but the beliefs in the book are more concerned with social and political liberalism, and criticizing Roman Catholicism, than with authentic Catholic Tradition. Old Catholicism developed as an attempt to preserve the ancient Tradition from changes it believes were made by the Roman Church. Old Catholic meant "Original" Catholic. The contents of this book do not in any way represent that Tradition. Those seeking objective information would be better off with books such as The Old Catholic Movement Its Origins and History ,Credo The Catechism Of The Old Catholic Churchor actually any Catholic documents before 1870, and the First Vatican Council, when the Old Catholic Union of Utrecht was formed and its member Churches were officially seperated from Rome. Those looking for a living example of Old Catholicism in America, and its spirituality, should investigate the Polish National Catholic Church--still connected to the Union of Utecht through its European counter-part the Polish Catholic Church (not just for Poles any longer & the only actual Old Catholic body in the U.S.). There are several good books on this subject on such as The Polish National Catholic Church and Journeying Together in Christ The Report of the Polish National Catholic-Roman Catholic Dialogue (1984-1989). They have churches throughout the country and about 25,000 members in the U.S. & their bishops, clergy & sacraments are recognized as valid even by the Roman Catholic Church. These facts are not true of any other group claiming to be Old Catholic in the U.S. Old Catholicism is an interesting & important topic, but the reader is better served elsewhere.
